Landscape of the Heart

Crescent Moon Theater, 150 S 100 E, Kanab, UT

Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument with a noted speaker and three distinguished 2016 GSENM Artists in Residence; Writer Becca Worby, Musician Arvel Bird and Photographer James Tarpley. Experience the Monument’s stunning beauty and remote wildness through perceptive emotions in words, music and imagery. Revel in an evening of artistic creativity like no other as three gifted artists express this land of extremes with different eyes and unique voices.

Artistic performances will follow an opening keynote speech by Utah Writer and Conservationist Stephen Trimble. Stephen participated in the conversations leading up to the proclamation of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. In his book, Bargaining for Eden, he researched the monument’s origin story. In his talk, he’ll tell that story. How did we come to preserve this remarkable landscape? What values lie within the boundaries? What we can learn from our journeys across these canyons and mesas?

Opportunities for book signing and sales will be provided following the performance. Proceeds support Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument through its nonprofit partner, Glen Canyon Natural History Association.
