20th Anniversary Event - Music Workshop

GSENM Visitors Center, 745 U.S. HWY 89 East, Kanab, UT

Let Celtic Indian and legendary performer Arvel Bird, 2016 GSENM Artist in Residence, lead you in exploring the creative process through music and place, tapping your connection to the land and unleashing your personal soul song. Weaving local cultures, experiences on GSENM, stories of the ancient ones, and respect for Spirit everywhere into this workshop, join Arvel with your own musical instrument. A limited number of percussive instruments will be available. Open to all ages.

Arvel traces his maternal heritage and part of his musical inspiration to the Shivwits, a local Southern Paiute band that was placed on a reservation in southern Utah but whose territory originally ranged from what is now Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument to the fertile Santa Clara & Virgin Rivers. Music remains a fundamental part of social and ceremonial society for Southern Paiutes.
